About

To gain an appreciation for how EDR knives are made, we must take a glimpse into the life of the maker, Eugéne du Rand.

The early days.

Eugéne was born in Queenstown, South Africa. He was introduced to the mechanical workings of things as a youngster and thrived in the outdoors. His love for spending time in a workshop was cultivated at an early age. He fixed, made, and built things whenever he had time on hand. In the workshop, his interest in practical items with outdoors applications steadily grew.

Life, the ultimate adventure.

As happens in life, his occupations, hobbies and interests took many windings – all honing his skillsets and building on each other. In particular, his years spent building ultra-light aircrafts and restoring motorcycles speaks to his exceptional talent for precision work and delivering the highest quality. A visitor to his workshop might indeed find some unexpected tools!

The uniqueness of individuality.

Preferring to find his own way when he pursues a new skillset, Eugéne’s work has a unique flavour to it. His signature works speaks of quality, attention to detail, and collectors’ value. Often controversial in his approach, the blending of his hard-earned skillsets become apparent as he blazes his own path.

Where we find him now.

Nowadays, Eugéne lives in the Western Cape where he focusses his attention on bladesmithing. He forges on to realise his vision of creating exceptional knives, worthy of being deemed desirable, nay, essential to be owned, by even the most discerning outdoors enthusiast.

Setting the bar high.

Holding an EDR knife in your hands, it becomes obvious that it has been crafted with both pride and insight. It has been moulded by more than just tools and the forge. Many years of inter-related experiences influenced its final shape and function.

Eugéne's vision:

“EDR knives are made to be used. Although they’re nice to look at, they’re not intended as pieces of art to be put on display. Our knives are great-to-handle, dependable tools for those who appreciate and need working knives; those who enjoy the finer things in life and take pride in their chosen tools.”
